What is an ingrowing toenail?
Typically a nail that has pierced the skin and creates a painful bleeding wound that will not resolve is an ingrowing toenail.
Key indicators are:
- pain and redness to the edge/s of the nail
- infection
- bleeding or oozing
- formation of 'frothy' skin to the affected area (hypergranulated tissue)
Ingrowing toenails cause a lot of misery and here at the Foot Clinic we are able to effectively treat this condition.

For some this does mean that the only option is nail surgery.
You can opt for a partial nail removal and keep most of your nail

Most people coming to us for the first time prefer to have a general appointment to discuss options. If that is the case then your podiatrist will ensure that you leave as comfortable as possible, supplying appropriate dressings where needed, and offering a treatment plan to resolve the problem.
