What happens during Nail Surgery

Nail Surgery is a simple and quick intervention to remove and prevent ingrowing nails

The procedure requires a local anaesthetic delivered by your podiatrist. You will be made to feel comfortable - we do understand that this can cause anxiety in some.

We only numb the toe in order to remove the nail. You will be able to walk and move your foot after the surgery.

Once your toe is numb we gently lift the offending area of nail, down to the matrix (its 'root') and snip it out.

To ensure the nail / part of the nail does not regrow a strong acid solution is applied to the nail bed to destroy the growth area.

You can opt for follow up dressing appointments and / or dressing packs or you can self care. We will help you whatever your choice.

You are in charge of your post nail surgery care

We offer surgery to remove part or the whole nail and can perform nails surgery on up to 4 toes in one session.

Our fee includes a dressing pack for you to use at home.

After that the choice is yours:

You can opt to do your dressing changes at home We provide dressings to get you started and we will demonstrate how to care for your toe after surgery. We will also send a written guide to help

If that is not for you then you can opt for a package of follow up dressing appointments and dressing packs to use at home. Typically we advise 1 appointment a week with 1 home dressing.

Or you can opt for dressing packs only and carry on with your wound care at home.
